How to Join Troop

We are always happy to consider new Scouts. Especially if they enjoy weekly meetings, an outdoor program. Are motivated and are willing to show leadership and responsibility as they progress with the Scouting experience. They must believe in the principles of Scouting that are contained with in the Scout Promise and Law.

To join Troop 1010, you must be 11 years old or have completed the fifth grade, or have earned you Arrow of Light while as a Webelo Scout. You can not have reached the age of 18. Contact the Scoutmaster and visit our Troop during one of meets on Wednesday nights. Here we can discuss, further, requirements to join our Troop.

Parents of prospective Scouts should read our Handbook. It contains
a lot of the necessary and helpful information about our Troop. It will explain many facts and answer a lot of your questions about being a Boy Scout and joining Troop 1010. It will tell you what will be expected of the new Scout and what he will require.

The Parent should complete and sign the Boy Scout Application form and return it to the Scoutmaster.  Parents should discuss with the Scoutmaster or Troop Committee Chairman his/her willingness to register as a member of the Troop Committee and to complete an Adult Registration form.

Cost of Scouting
The registration fees when the scout first joins are: $7.00 for BSA registration, and $9.00 for Boys Life.  Future reregistration fees are covered by troop dues.

Troop dues are just $3.00 monthly or $36.00 a year. With today's costs and expenditures this is a nominal price for an experience that will stay with the Scout for the rest of his life! And if you sign up of as a Committee member it's an experience you share together!

Month camping costs are as low as well. Average camping cost is $8.00 a trip to the Scout! This covers the food for the Scout. The Troop picks up the cost of the trip itself (i.e. any registration fee or permits).

Summer Camp at Camp Rock Enon does have fees that are the responsibility of the Scout. But we have yearly fund raisers (see our handbook) that allows the Scout to receive a percentage, thus offsetting the cost. On average the price of summer camp (that's living a full week at camp) is $135 to $145. This fee does not include spending money! You can discuss this with our Scoutmaster as well.

At times our Troop will take a trip that will cost extra. Whether it's skiing ,visiting a museum or a historic landmark our Troop will do all it can to keep the cost down to the Scout. These fees are determined in advance. They typically cover the cost of food and special fees that may be changed to attend. The Troop will defray as much as possible!
